What Is A Payor Rider For Life Insurance?

Life insurance products can be confusing, but very important when protecting your families future and your personal estate. Attached to each life insurance policy are riders, options, exclusions, provisions and waivers. A rider is a separate document that “rides” or attaches to the main life insurance policy that gives special provisions that provide benefits or make adjustments to the policy.

In most cases with juvenile life insurance policies, a parent or guardian is the policy owner that pays the premium and coverage, while the child is the insured. A payor rider on a policy will cease premium payments of premium if the parent (policy owner) becomes disabled or dies. The payments will become waived by the insurance company until the child has reached a certain age, usually ages 21 or 25.

A payor rider will apply when the payor dies or becomes disabled before the insured has reached an age that is stated in the policy, the insurance policy will still remain in force. This can be applied to death only or death and disability.

The payor rider guarantees the possibility that the juvenile insurance policy will achieve what it’s policy owner wanted it to do, even if the parent/policy owner isn’t there to see it happen. If the parent isn’t able to pay premiums, it still guarantees that the child will have an insurance policy.

This rider does expose the life insurance company to a greater risk, so they must charge higher premiums for the payor rider. The insurance company will manage these risks and pool all their policies together and determine the proper amount to charge to add the rider on. As with any other business, the insurance company is trying to make money. They employ actuaries that complete complex algorithms to arrive at figures which minimize risk, make the company money and while still being competitive in pricing against other insurance companies.

When the policy owner applies for the payor rider, they must prove that they are qualified for the benefit of the rider. This is done in many aspects including medically, morally, and financially. Before the insurer will include a payor rider with the juvenile policy, the policy owner or payor, must provide proof of insurability.

When applying for life insurance policies, make sure that your insurance agent explains all aspects of the policy thoroughly. An applicant will also have a “free look” at all policies, in which it gives the policy owner a time to review the agreement. Many riders can be included to polices that can be beneficial which could be added on for free or have an additional charge.

The Adventure Of English by Melvyn Bragg

Melvyn Bragg subtitles The Adventure Of English with the intriguing phrase "The Biography of a Language". He thus imposes that the language, specifically English, has a life of its own, setting itself the task of creating both an adventure and a narrative that will convince the reader that the language has both an identity and, to some extent, a personality that identifies an individuality. He succeseds on all counts.

The story starts of course with a birth and then unfolds chronologically through the first half of the book, before diverging to examine the different and often parallel geographical manifestations of English in the modern world. These have happened since the dawn of Empire and, as a consequence of their disparate elements and different paths of development, possibly suggest that English is more of a family than an individual. Amazingly, Melvyn Bragg goes through eleven chapters before considering Shakespeare. The book is thus quite careful in its examination of the origins of the language and its early development.

Later on there are three chapters on the language in the United States, one each on Australia, India and the West Indies. We come across a little, although not enough, Singlish from Singapore, and Africa is seriously ignored, except for the influence of African languages on English in the Americas.

Melvyn Bragg also devotes considerable time to the discussion of accent, pronunciation, dialect and correctness. Obviously each of these areas could have been a lifetime's work, let alone a book in itself, but Melvyn Bragg succeseds at least in defining the territory and correctly identifies the parts played by snobbishness and social class in the application of labels such as coarse, standard Egypt even correct.

A decade and a half ago, I myself managed to astound an American college who, having prejudged the length of my "a" asked me to pronounce the word bath. He was a New Yorker and was more than surprised when I intoned a sound that rhymed with American math. He had expected, of course, a sound like "barth". Melvyn Bragg identifies this short "a" with an older version of English, one that predated the strong French influence of the eighth century that produced the long "a", amongst other things, especially among the middle classes of southern England. The American settlers, of course, left Britain before this new-fangled foreign influence arrived, so they retained their short "a", which is of course the correct version. This serves to remind us that whatever we speak in our daily lives and wherever we live, we are perhaps born into a language and the one we adopt as infants becoming part of our very identity.

This is just one example of many of interest that appear in The Adventure Of English. Once assembled, these quirks of history really do allow the language to create its own identity. It is thus described as a living, developing entity, constantly changing its appearance while many try to hold it fixed.

The Adventure Of English by Melvyn Bragg is in no way a comprehensive look at the language, its development and its contemporary manifestations. But it does achieve admirably what it intends to do at the start, which is to create an adventure and present an as yet incomplete biography.

Decorating With Antique Oil Lamps

Since the miraculous advent of electricity, oil lamps have become something of an antique, and understandably so. It’s not particularly practical to use an antique oil lamp in your home today, not to mention a safety hazard. However, these lamps are still very much in demand, but not for the reasons they once were. Antique oil lamps are collectible items now that can be found on more eBay auctions than you could ever know what to do with. They make excellent collectors’ items and can even be used throughout your home as decoration and for the occasional power outage.

Most people associate antique oil lamps with thoughts of the old west, which is why they make such interesting decorative pieces for rooms geared toward this theme. If you’ve bucked the modern, sterile look of a kitchen with stainless steel appliances and black marble counter tops, you may want to give the country farmhouse look a try. It can give off a much warmer feeling and is a perfect place to showcase the antique oil lamps you’ve been collecting. Most of them have handles on top, so all you need is a hook to screw into the wall and you’re all set. Your antique oil lamp has gone from a dusty artifact to wall decoration!

Antique oil lamps can be a unique and clever way to light up the back yard for a night time get-together with the neighborhood. Being careful not to put them near anything too flammable, they can be placed throughout your back yard. The antique oil lamps will give your guest enough light to see each other, while keeping it just dim enough that they can still see the stars in the night sky. Antique oil lamps can make an interesting takeoff on a tiki torch as well. You can find poles that stick in the ground with hooks on top to hang the lamps on.

When collecting antique oil lamps and attempting to use them in your decorating scheme, it is essential to think of safety first and protect your family from any possibility of a fire. If you do keep oil lamps around for use in the event of a power outage, either don’t keep them filled with oil, or keep the ones with oil in them in a different place. The last thing you want is some freak accident what somehow ignites the antique oil lamp mounted above your sink. Aside from this rare possibility, collecting and decorating with antique oil lamps is a way to preserve a little history and use it in your every day life.

Types of Soft Toys

There are of course plenty of different types of soft toys available for kids of all ages. Broadly speaking you will be looking at two categories there – on the one hand you have the educational toys, and on the other hand there will be the "classic" soft toys, the comforting toys like teddy bears and plush animals. Both the learning and classic varieties have their own place in the nursery and both will deliver their own styles of fun and entertainment.

Educational toys are ideal for encouraging questing minds to start exploring the world around them. As far as types of soft toys go, educational toys tend either to be things like finger puppets and glove puppets, or sets of toys that illustrate a certain thing about the world, like a pack of farm animals or jungle animals. A puppet can actually help to awaken a child's interest in the world around it – the colorful animal or character on the hand or on the finger can be used as a "teacher", pointing things out to the child on a walk or in the nursery .

Classic types of soft toys perform two basic functions in the life of a child. First, they give the child what is probably its first experience of an attachment to something other than its mother and father (or of course its father and father, or its mother and its other mother). This is an extremely important thing for a child to learn. An attachment to a soft toy is a natural and healthy way of starting to learn that there are other things in the world to which one can become attached. In other words, that one is able to make friends.

Second then, the classic types of soft toys also encourage a child to start using its imagination. The child that starts to play with his or her toys regularly, and to give them imaginary personalities, or to take them on wild adventures, is a child learning to use his or her brain to make imaginative links between his or her inner world and the world outside. An active imagination is well reputed to be a sign of a healthy mind – so making sure that your child has access to the toys that are often his or her first outlet into the world of the mind is an important part of parenting.

There is of course one other attribute that all types of soft toys share. They are soft. This means that they are completely safe to give to even very young children. There is nothing about a soft toy that can cut or congratulate or in other ways cause harm to a child and so parents can safely leave them to play with them, or to keep them in bed at night for a feeling of security and warmth. The only caution one might give is for parents of children still young enough to sleep in cots to take the cuddly toys away at night to prevent suffocation.

Sorcerer’s Apprentice is Costume Magic

Recently opening in theaters around the country, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is a live action, comedy-adventure starring Nicholas Cage in the role of master sorcerer (and student of Merlin), Balthazar Blake. Loosely premised on the “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” part of Disney’s animated Fantasia, this film puts a modern-day spell of magic for movie-goer’s to enjoy. If you give a thumbs-up to this film that just debuted last weekend, you may even like dressing up in a Sorcerer’s Apprentice costume this year for Halloween.

Cage’s character, Balthazar Blake, is charged with protecting modern-day Manhattan from the wicked wizard, Maxim Horvath. The despicable Horvath recruits the assistance of an illusionist to help him execute his nefarious plans upon New York City. However, the Sorcerer Blake and his newly-trained apprentice take on the antagonists for a classic and entertaining good versus evil showdown.

Balthazar’s sorcerer costume is more contemporary that the stereotypical image of a magic-making wizard. Wearing black trousers, a dark shirt and a waistcoat (vest) in black with a very fine pin stripe, Balthazar often seen covering up his garb with a long, duster-style trench coat crafted in black leather. In some scenes, Cage’s character is also sporting a fedora hat with his shoulder length, wavy hair – if you don’t have brown hair, wear a wig!

Arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath, also wears a dark costume covered with a black overcoat. The villain is also shown carrying about a walking cane and wears a close-groomed goatee-mustache combo. Dress up as other characters in the movie such as the sorcerer’s apprentice, Dave Stutler, a seemingly average guy wearing a plaid shirt, old jeans and a red zippered hoodie – now that’s a no-brainer, magic costume! For the women, the sorceress costume can be created with a long, gauzy dress and a straight, brunette wig and the apprentice’s love interest, Becky, is an all-American looking blonde.

Or go retro in an old-school Sorcerer’s Apprentice costume. America’s favorite animated rodent, Mickey Mouse played the role of sorcerer’s apprentice in Disney’s Fantasia! andhis Mickey Mouse costume features a long red, velvety robe tied with a golden cord, Mickey ears attached to a purple wizard’s hat, white cartoon gloves and a wand.

4Ps & 6Ps – Marketing Mix

Marketing mix is one of the major concepts of marketing. According to the traditional base, there are 4Ps of marketing. These are referred to as the marketing mix. But in the modern use of the term, many more Ps have been coined. People have found six, seven even eleven Ps of marketing. In this article we will talk about the 4Ps and 6Ps.

Four Ps

The four Ps of marketing mix consist of Product, Price, Place and Promotion. Product means the thing that you are selling. It can also be a service like the tourism industry.

Price means the rate at which the product is being sold. A number of factors are involved in determining the price of a product. These include competition, market share, product identity, material costs and the value customers perceive of a product. In fact prices are also determined by competitor’s products. If the competitors have the same product, then the price of a product will go down.

Place refers to the real or virtual place from where a product can be bought by a consumer. Another name used for place is called “distribution channel”. Promotion is the way that a product will be communicated to the general public. There are four distinct ways in which this might be done- ‘point of sale’, ‘word of mouth’, public relations and advertising.

Somewhere down the line people felt that four Ps were not enough for marketing mix. It had to face a lot of criticism mainly on the grounds that it was extremely product focused. This was not enough for the economy which is based a lot on services as well nowadays.

Another criticism that marketing mix has to face is that it does not have a ‘purpose’. So it should be looked upon as a tool that sets marketing strategy. Another criticism of marketing mix is that it does not discuss customers. This is why the concept of Six Ps of Marketing mix has achieved relevance.

Six Ps

The six Ps contain all the four Ps of marketing – product, price, place and promotion. In addition, it contains, two new Ps, namely People and Performance.

People include the potential and current customers of the business and how they make their purchase decisions. Market segmentation is also a part of this. It contains the features of market segmentation and the most attractive segments of this market.

The next P is Performance. This implies the performance of the business. The financial and strategic objectives of the business are dealt with here. It is also seen whether these objectives are achievable and realistic or not. The metrics of financial performance are also seen and appropriated in this division.

The six Ps of marketing mix help to overcome the criticisms of the four Ps. Hence the 6Ps serve to be a better alternative as compared to the 4Ps of marketing mix.
